🇫🇷 A teacher was stabbed three times in the chest by a student at La Guicharde middle school in Sanary-sur-Mer, southern France.
The attacker, reportedly a 14-year-old student, stood up during class and stabbed the teacher. The victim, a 60-year-old teacher, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, a local police spokesperson said.
The attacker has not been publicly identified.
The incident comes amid a series of knife attacks targeting teachers in French schools, some linked to terrorism.
In October 2023, a French literature teacher was stabbed to death at the Gambetta-Carnot school in Arras, northern France.
Three other staff members were injured in that attack, carried out by the ISIS supporter Mohammed Mogouchkov, then 20, who remains in custody awaiting trial.
Another notorious terrorist attack occurred northwest of Paris on October 16, 2020. The French middle-school teacher Samuel Paty was beheaded by Abdoullakh Anzorov, an 18-year-old Russian refugee of Chechen origin.
The attack was triggered after Paty showed Charlie Hebdo caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad during a civics lesson on freedom of speech.
