The FBI raided an illegal biological laboratory in Las Vegas.
Inside a locked garage, investigators found multiple refrigerators containing vials of unknown liquids described as “potential biological and hazardous materials,” along with gallon-sized containers of unidentified substances, a centrifuge, and other lab equipment, authorities said.
More than 1,000 samples were collected and sent to an FBI laboratory for testing.
The Las Vegas biolab may be connected to another illegal laboratory previously uncovered in Fresno County, California.
The property owner was arrested in 2023 in connection with the illegal biolab discovered in Reedley, California. Authorities say the owner, a Chinese national, remains in federal custody and has pleaded not guilty.
That case prompted a congressional investigation, which found that the illegal lab had allegedly received funding from Chinese banks and housed thousands of biological samples labeled as HIV, COVID, tuberculosis, malaria, and even Ebola.
According to a federal report by the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, officials observed blood, tissue, and other bodily fluid samples inside the Reedley biolab, along with thousands of vials containing unlabeled fluids and suspected biological material, raising concerns they may have contained dangerous pathogens.
Some vials were labeled with pathogen names in English and Mandarin.
