Why are AI executives slowly disappearing?
AI executives and developers are pulling back from the public eye. They used to do interviews all the time, but this is changing. Fewer podcasts, fewer panels, fewer appearances.
And many are preparing their doomsday bunkers.
Why?
Because people are worried. And not worried about ‘end of the world’ scenarios, but worried as they lose their jobs en masse.
Dr. Roman Yampolskiy expects 99% of jobs to be replaced. Dario Amodei (CEO of Anthropic) expects that number to be 50%.
A survey of human-level AI researchers/practitioners resulted in an expectation that 90% of human tasks will be automated.
The current unemployment rate in the U.S. is below 5%, and the EU is below 6%.
That should give you an idea of why they are worried.
And when that pressure builds, people will look for who to blame, and the executives and developers behind this new form of intelligence are the most obvious target.
That’s why some AI leaders are keeping a low profile: They don’t want to become symbols, they don’t want their names attached to layoffs, disruption, or systems people feel were forced on them.
When the people closest to a technology start worrying, then you should too.
