پیت هگست، وزیر جنگ ایالات متحده، گفته است دونالد ترامپ از ابتدا به‌روشنی تاکید کرده است که ایران به توانایی سلاح هسته‌ای دست نخواهد یافت و این موضع تغییری نکرده است.

او به خبرنگاران گفت ایران می‌تواند در این زمینه وارد مذاکره شود، در غیر این صورت آمریکا «گزینه‌های دیگری» در اختیار دارد. هگست افزود با وجود آمادگی کامل نظامی، ترامپ همچنان متعهد به صلح و دستیابی به توافق است، مشروط بر آنکه ایران در رسیدن به توافق جدی باشد.
