🇵🇱 Poland is building the most heavily protected border in Europe
The SAN counter-UAV programme, to be implemented over two years, will include anti-aircraft battery modules capable of countering unmanned aerial vehicles, among other components.
Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has signed a $1.5 billion contract with Poland to supply 18 PROTECTOR counter-drone system batteries.
The delivery will include 703 armoured combat vehicles: about 400 based on Jelcz chassis and around 300 on Ił-6/Rosomak platforms. These will form 18 command platoons (one per battery) and 52 fire units.
The vehicles will serve as platforms for sensors, radars and weapon systems (35/30/12.7 mm cannons and 70 mm air-defence missiles), all integrated via PROTECTOR turrets.
This delivery alone will enable coverage of 300 to 500 km. Given that Poland’s border with Belarus and Russia is about 630 km long, the PROTECTOR systems will cover most of this distance.
