🚨🇮🇷 OPINION: STARLINK IS WHAT SEPARATES NIGHT RAIDS FROM WIDESPREAD BRUTALITY IN IRAN

Iran's near-total internet shutdown is cutting off 92 million people from global comms, international calls, and much domestic access during brutal crackdowns on 3 weeks of anti-regime protests.

Experts call it one of the most severe ever seen, helping the government hide atrocities with at least 2,500 reported deaths.

Starlink is the main (and often only) way folks are staying connected to the outside world, sharing protest videos, coordinating, and getting uncensored info.

SpaceX waived subscription fees this week for Iranians, making it free for those with terminals.

A recent firmware update helps fight government jamming, and activists say it's proven essential:

"Satellite internet during this total blackout has proven to be the only way that people were able to get the information out."

But it's risky, using Starlink is illegal ("a big crime" per experts), with regime raids, confiscations, jamming (military-grade, possibly Russian-supplied), and efforts to hunt users down.

The government even lobbied the UN to stop it, and some reports say they've disrupted 80%+ of traffic at times, though Starlink keeps pushing back.

Overall, it's a fragile lifeline keeping the world informed during the chaos.
